Finding cheap flights to Iceland
To fly from the UK to Iceland, you will need to fly into Keflavík International Airport (KEF).
Keflavík International Airport (KEF) welcomed 8.3 million visitors last year and is the main airport to for international travellers to Iceland.
This airport is conveniently located just outside of Reykjavik. It is also located near the popular tourist attraction, Blue Lagoon. Due to this, many tourists will visit the Blue Lagoon immediately after their flight lands in Keflavík International Airport (KEF).
Airlines including Icelandair, Jet2, EasyJet, British Airways and PLAY all offer direct flights from the UK to Keflavík International Airport (KEF).
Finding cheap flights to Iceland
The best way to find flights to Iceland is by using price comparison sites such as SkyScanner, Google Flights and GoToGate. These sites will let you compare various airlines and travel combinations in order to find the best value and most convenient option.
To find flights to Iceland, you can also check on airlines' websites directly. Icelandair, Jet2, EasyJet, British Airways and PLAY all offer direct flights from the UK to Iceland.
When to fly to Iceland
September through to May is typically the period when you will find the cheapest flights to Iceland. In particular, December, January & February (excluding the period around Christmas and New Year's Day) will be the very cheapest months to fly.
The good news is that much of this season covers the northern lights season, which runs from September to mid-April. So if jumping on a northern lights tour in Iceland is on your bucket list, then make the most of the cheaper flights!
September and May are generally considered shoulder seasons, which is when you can find a good balance of long-ish daylight hours, quieter crowds and slightly cheaper prices in comparison to going during peak season.
Iceland’s high season runs from June to August, which is when you will find the longer daylight hours; and during certain periods, you can discover 24 hours of sunlight. This is a great time for road tripping on the Icelandic Ring Road. However, this season brings in the highest prices, including flight prices. You will also find that this is the period that brings in the most crowds.

Flights to Iceland from the UK
If you’re like me and from the UK, you will be able to find 9 airports that offer direct flights to Iceland.
If you’re able to be flexible with your departure airport, you might be able to grab a good deal. Generally, airports situated in and around London tend to offer the best deals.
However, I managed to get myself an £80 return flight from Birmingham last December with EasyJet, so it’s always worth testing out different flight combinations.
Flight tickets from London to Iceland
To buy a direct flight ticket from London to Iceland, you will need to fly from either London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW), London Stansted (STN), or London Luton (LTN).
London Heathrow (LHR) offers daily direct flights to Iceland via multiple airlines, including Icelandair and British Airways.
London Gatwick (LGW) offers frequent direct flights to Iceland with Icelandair and EasyJet.
London Stansted (STN) flies direct to Iceland via PLAY.
London Luton (LTN) offers direct flights to Iceland with EasyJet.
Flight duration from London to Iceland
Direct flights from London to Iceland range from around 3 hours to 3 hours and 20 minutes. You can fly direct to Iceland from London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW), London Stansted (STN), and London Luton (LTN).
The London airports with the most flights to Iceland are London Heathrow (LHR) with daily flights departing via Icelandair and British Airways, as well as London Gatwick (LGW), which has daily direct flights via Icelandair and EasyJet.
Flights to Iceland from UK airports
You are able to fly direct to Iceland from various London airports, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol and East Midlands. Airlines including Icelandair, Jet2, EasyJet, British Airways and PLAY all offer direct flights from various UK airports to Keflavík International Airport (KEF).
- Manchester (MAN) offers regular direct flights to Iceland with EasyJet, Icelandair, and Jet2.
- Birmingham (BHX) offers frequent direct flights to Iceland with Jet2 and EasyJet.
- Edinburgh (EDI) has regular direct flights to Iceland via EasyJet and Icelandair.
- Glasgow (GLA) offers direct flights to Iceland with Icelandair.
- Bristol (BRS) flies direct to Iceland with Jet2 and EasyJet.
- East Midlands (EMA) offers direct flights to Iceland via Jet2.
- London Heathrow (LHR) offers daily direct flights to Iceland via multiple airlines, including Icelandair and British Airways.
- London Gatwick (LGW) offers frequent direct flights to Iceland with Icelandair and EasyJet.
- London Stansted (STN) flies direct to Iceland via PLAY.

Domestic Flights in Iceland
Believe it or not, Iceland is actually home to four major domestic airports as well as many smaller authorised regional airfields and airports, and of course, Keflavík International Airport (KEF).
This might sound excessive for a country that is 2.35 times smaller than the UK. However, many people in Iceland live and travel within isolated areas where the only means of transport when it comes to travelling across the country is via plane or boat.
Other airports in Iceland include:
Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV), Akureyi Airport (AEY), Egilsstaðir Airport (EGS), Ísafjörður Airport (IFJ), Höfn Airport (HFN), Gjögur Airport (GJR), Grimsey Airport (GRY), Vestmannaeyjar (VEY), Húsavík (HZK)
(Note: There have been no scheduled flights to Húsavík (HZK) since March 2025 due to improved road links within this area of Iceland).
You cannot fly to these airports directly from the UK. If you want to fly into one of the domestic Icelandic airports, you will first need to fly into Keflavík International Airport (KEF) and then transfer to Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV), which is only a 45 drive away.
A direct shuttle service via FlyBus also connects Keflavík International Airport (KEF) to Reykjavík, where you can then walk to Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV).
From Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV), you can take a domestic flight to a different Icelandic airport. Domestic flights in Iceland are served by Icelandair and Norlandair. Many smaller airports and airfields will not fly every day, so it’s important to plan accordingly if this is your desired method of transport around Iceland.
You could also fly into Keflavík International Airport (KEF), take a few days to visit the Blue Lagoon, complete the Golden Circle, stay in Reykjavik, and then look to fly on from Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV) to elsewhere in Iceland after a few days exploring this region.
